Bafana Bafana Legend Mark Fish pays tribute to Lucas on

As part of’s African All Stars series, Mark Fish paid tribute to Lucas and reminisces about their football playing days.

Fish talks about Lucas’ personality and attitude and attributes Lucas’ on-the-field performances as what made him stand out.

Fish also talks about Lucas’ loyalty to Leeds United, the Yorkshire club that he captained and led to 3rd position in the Premier League during the 1999/ 2000 season and to the Champions League semi-final the following season.

“He achieved a lot, playing for one club for 10 years is something special and it’s rare these days where you see a player staying with the same club for 10 years. That’s why he holds an icon status at Elland Road up to today,” Fish told

Fish and Lucas formed part of the historic Bafana Bafana team that won the 1996 AFCON in South Africa.

Nelson Mandela once called Lucas his Hero, and Fish notes that the honour of meeting Madiba and being known as one of Madiba’s Boys will always be one of the highlight of their lives.
